A partial
list of Machining projects
Automatic Regroove
Lathe
Developed a
3 axis lathe that automatically finds the location of a deformed
groove in the shaft of a starter armature and then re-cut the groove.
Runs 20 plus different part types. Part and inspection parameters
edited buy operator. Camera used for finding the deformed
groove, screening defective parts and inspecting the cutting tool
tip.
Rotor Varnish
Cell
Overall process;
automatic robotic load of varnish system (RF heater, varnish bath
& drying tower). Automatic unload of drying tower, automatic
robotic loading/unloading secondary operations, measurement system
& CNC lathes. Automatic change over of up to 35 different parts.
Operator can edit parameters (i.e. heat settings, part inspection
parameters, etc.) for all parts. CNC lathes are used to turn
the slip rings to the proper size and surface finish.
Cell contains a rotor accumulator, robots, automatic measurement
systems, CNC lathes & secondary operation machines, several
camera systems for locating parts and/or inspecting them.
Robotic FMS Cells
2 FMS cells
for machining and SPC inspection of the IBM 3390 mainframe disk
drive housings (aprox. 22” x 12” x 8”). Parts
loaded into machining center fixtures within plus/minus .005”
TIR with robots that had plus/minus .014” repeatability. Robotic
loading increased throughput and reduced job related injuries along
with insurance costs.
Each cell included 6 twin palette horizontal machining centers (4
axis), a gantry robot (4000 IPM, 6 axis, 50’ x 14’ x
6’ work envelope), various precision fixtures, powered conveyors,
part inspection and color graphic operator interfaces.
